Harvest Monday 12.19.11

Our son Ezra has been pretty sick during the past few days, so we haven't been doing much harvesting. We did have some nice lamb kebabs tonight, which required some onion, parsley, and mint from the garden. I served it with a tahini sauce and a side salad of greens from the garden, but forgot to take a photo. It is amazing that when your child is sick, everything else just seems to fade into the background.

We did have a pretty interesting harvest earlier in the week which I did photograph - I am pretty sure it qualifies for Harvest Monday. Our home is a few hundred yards from the Pacific Ocean, and we just happen to be in an area filled with Pacific Spiny Lobsters. Just as we were sitting down to dinner, I received a call from a friend who just finished diving for lobsters in Cardiff. I let him use my State Park parking pass for Cardiff State Beach, and in turn, he very generously gives us a few lobsters from time to time.

This particular evening we were given two, just plucked from the cold, salty ocean. I put them in a bucket, finished my dinner, and cleaned them for the next evening. Ezra refuses to eat lobsters, and Alison and I never press the issue. We grilled them on the barbecue, and served them with some warm butter.

  1. Hope your little guy feels better soon. I wish we still lived close to the ocean. I guess I'll have to do with crayfish assuming I could find any.

  2. Hope Erza is feeling better. Fresh caught lobster, what a treat.
